Metropolitan Technologies (MT) is a full-service Technology consulting firm based in Princeton, N.J. MT provides consulting services in Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure, Security System Design and AudioVisual Systems for educational institutions, law enforcement agencies, municipalities, healthcare facilities, and corporate clients. In addition to design services, MT offers project management, site inspections, field measurements and construction administration services. MT is also a leader in Command and Control Facilities.
Before founding MT in 2006, Mark R. Kretchmer had been working for a large, publicly traded New York City-based technology consulting firm for 14 years. Although he sold MT to another company in 2008, he purchased it back in 2010 to ensure his original vision would be carried out. The last five months of 2010 were astounding, as revenues increased four-fold from the same period last year. And no matter where Kretchmer went, his clients followed because of his reputation for completing projects on time and within budget, and beyond the client's expectations. Some of his clients have stayed with him (regardless of where he worked) for more than 20 years.
MT specializes in Security Systems Design and Information Transport Systems (ITS) Infrastructure and Systems Technology Designs. Many of its clients are in the Security Design market with high-profile projects such as New Jersey Transit Commuter Rail Platforms and Rail Yard Operations Centers, and the Essex County Sheriff's Department Dispatch Command Center.
When working with its clients, MT's employees simply act as an extension of their staff. "Our clients are with us every step of the way on every project, and we keep the information flowing at all times to eliminate any critical issues or missed milestones," says Mark R. Kretchmer, COO of MT. "All of our clients feel they are part of the team when working with MT."
Additionally, MT provides credentialed professionals in all technology disciplines, such as RCDD for IT and infrastructure and CPP, CSC, VAM-CF for Security Design and Threat and Vulnerability Assessments. Its project managers and employees also have the experience necessary to handle each and every project. "MT provides well balanced and seasoned professionals who have many years of experience in multiple vertical markets," says Kretchmer.
MT does not sell any equipment or software, so it has no ties to any specific vendors or manufacturers. "This provides a pure design product devoid of any underlying motives to design more equipment than what is needed," says Kretchmer. "MT remains pure in its mission to provide consulting design services that are always in the clients' best interest." Furthermore, MT monitors its
work throughout the life of a project and ensures that clients get the best technology available for the best price.
A recent example of MT's expertise is a project it handled for Woodbridge Township, the fourth-largest township in New Jersey, comprising 10 municipalities. The township needed to expand its live data center while keeping it operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The data center houses all the police department's radio equipment, security systems, call loggers and recorders, 911 operations systems, the school district servers, the fire commission's phone and data services, and the entire township's voice and data systems. MT was contracted to design the expansion and also serve as the technology construction manager on site. By combining services within a shared services model, the Township was able to do more in supporting all technology services with less cost. "MT provided the expertise in engineering combined with experienced professionals that allowed Woodbridge Township's CIO and staff to perform their regular day-job functions and not worry about what was happening during design and construction," says Kretchmer. This project garnered numerous awards and grants from the state for innovative thinking and use of technology as a business tool for publicly run facilities.
With the client's needs always at the forefront of its work, MT has made a name for itself in the industry. In fact, the company's procedures include following up on projects up to five years after their completion and acceptance. This attention is invaluable for clients. This is demonstrated by the company's more than 80 percent repeat business. With a solid track record like that, MT is sure to continue as an industry leader.
In fact, its latest K-12 project, a new $90 million high school in close proximity to Atlantic City located in Greater Egg Harbor, which was just completed, has won the National Gold Medal Award for excellence in Design.
The highest compliment and confidence was recently bestowed on the firm - being chosen to provide Security, IT and AudioVisual Design services for the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. where President Barack Obama's children attend school.
